The film 'Die Hard' mirrors this stereotype quite accurately, due to this Cop' on a mission to save lives from terrorists. Usually in action films like this, the odds are not in the favour of the main 'action hero'. Nether the less they always find a way to prevail even though the audience has been lead to believe other wise.
Action films always seem to distinguish a line between 'Goodies' and 'Baddies' this could be due to action films being aimed at younger audiences too, so that the younger audience can understand the plot easier, these films can differ from PG to 18 depending on any sub-genre or story line content.
Another good film for this genre would be 'The Expendables' this film relies a lot on the actors that it includes, because of them all being known for very manly, strong hero roles, throughout their career, so by putting them all together you already have created a film with a large fanbase for these action characters.
Along with the actors there are a lot of action based symbols such as guns, tanks, planes, cars, explosives and fights. This all adds up to almost give an affect of too much action, so it becomes a bit of a subliminal joke to the audience, this is so heavily pushed that you can get a very good idea of the film just from a small section of the film.
