Genre Research and Similar Films

Genre Research

The genre of the film that we have chosen to do is an Action, with a Thriller sub-genre.
Action thriller films usually feature guns, explosions, and amazing sets, this movie type first developed in the 1970s with films such as Dirty Harry and The French Connection, and became the exemplar of the Hollywood mega-blockbuster of the 1980s in such works as Die Hard and Lethal Weapon
These films often feature a 'race against the clock', lots of violence, and a clear—often flamboyantly evil—antagonist. Though they may involve elements of crime or mystery films, those aspects take a back seat to the action, which is at the forefront of the movie. Other significant works include Hard BoiledTrue RomancePoint BreakBullitt, and Rambo.
The story-lines tend take place in a limited location, for example: a single building, plane, or vessel - which is seized or under threat by enemy agents, but are opposed by a single hero who fights to attempt to defeat them.

There are a few films that are good examples of this genre which are similar to the film that we are producing. One of which is the 'Bourne Tetralogy', In these films there is a lot of action which is very stereotypical to its genre, there is also built up suspense throughout the films which is strongly linked to the thriller genre features that we intend to recreate in our film.

Another similar film to the one we are making is Wanted, which has a very similar story line to our film and also has features from the genres of the film we are making. A simple summary of the plot of this film is A young man finds out his long lost father is an assassin. When his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father's old organization and trained by a man named Sloan to follow in his dad's footsteps. This could be said to be loosely related to the synopsis for our film, as in our film the characters are an assassin and two business partners, however their course of action through the film is pretty much the same.
