Thriller Genre

The Thriller genre can differ depending on the story line of the film, but the most significant theme of thrillers is to create tensions and suspense, and as it would be harder to create tension with set items as this kind of film is heavily based on the story line, they use sounds and environments to give a pathetic falacy of what they're trying to show. Another theme that is used quite frequently throughout Theiller films is 'Revenge' letting the viewer feel the main characters pain with him throughout the film. This film will be for an older audience probably 15 to 18 for the majority of the films.

A good film to represent the thriller genre would be 'No Country For Old Men' this film really pushes the Thriller genre to its upmost limits and creates tension and suspense so well that at points it can be difficult to watch, but this film makes sure that it doesn't stray too far into the horror genre and still keeps the characteristics of a Thriller.

Another good example of a thriller would be 'Shutter Island' because this film is very strongly based on the plot and has a twist at the end, and very suttle hints are given throughout so that the audience doesn't feel completely cheated at the end, but to build tension there are some very clever pauses that get dragged on to really get the audiences heart beating. Plus the environment is used a lot to feel the characters struggle, like the film is set on an island meaning that the character is trapped through all the things that happen.
